Elide Melchioni

Born in Bologna in 1970, she graduated with full marks in a bassoon at the Martini Conservatory of Bologna and graduated in Ethnomusicology (DAMS - Disciplines of music) with honors at the University of Bologna. She then obtained the three-year Specialization title for Secondary Music Teaching (SSIS). The strong ethnomusicological passion leads her to be interested in themes related to singing and popular vocality: she sings for many years as a soloist in the ‘Latinobalcanica ensemble’, a female vocal trio dedicated to the repertoire of oral tradition of the Mediterranean and has directed popular inspired choirs since 1998, up to create one in her image, or the eclectic Choir Farthan (songs of Italian and European oral tradition, new compositions for choir). In addition to the bassoon she plays the Emilian piva and the ocarinas, rare instruments with which she participates as a soloist in important festivals of medieval, popular and word music (Classica Orchestra Afrobeat, Ocarinist group of Budrio). She has recorded several CDs, (Tactus and independent labels), has participated in various live radio-television sector as both singer and musician (‘The Music room’ RADIO3; BBC-London ‘The music of Rai Tre’ - RAI3; ‘Moby Dick’, RADIO2), and to prestigious Festivals, including RadioEuropa Festival up to the legendary Glastonbury Festival (UK). She collaborated as historical-scientific consultant to the documentary film GITANISTAN (inspired by her degree thesis), in competition at the Biografilm Festival 2014 in Bologna (www.gitanistan.com). For 9 years she was delegate for the province of Bologna of the Emiliano Romagnola Cori Association AERCO and is now a member of the Artistic Commission. She enthusiastically teaches Music Education and Ocarina at the Guido Reni Music School in Bologna.
